Here is the breakdown of what we were specifically looking for when we were observing the interaction in the classroom.
** We recorded the gender of the teacher and grade level he/she taught, along with the gender of the student being responded to.
** "Response Time" and "Hands Raised" deal with the amount of time the teacher let go by when the child did or did not raise their hand, and whether or not the teacher was busy.
** "Instructions" indicated if the teacher instructed the class as a whole, or to a boy, or to a girl, and how the teachers reacted towards the gender of their students.
** "Discipline" was used to note how the male and female teachers control the male and female students.
** "Explanations" indicates whether the gender of the students affected how the teachers explain different tactics in their classrooms. Do they explain fully to boys more? Or to girls? Or are they the same?
